Ricardo Tavera
Ricardo Vázquez Tavera (Mexico City, May 21, 1985) is a Mexican film director, screenwriter, musician, teacher, editor and film producer. He directed the films "Niños asesinos", "El triunfo de vivir", "Vidas Violentas", "The Juniors y la Fórmula Imperial" and "Esperpentos y la Sociedad del Bullying". He studied Communication Sciences with a specialty in Film at the University of the Valley of Mexico. He has directed more than 30 short films, being a great promoter of them through the Basta No Violencia Campaign. He worked as a production assistant, content and show coordinator in different areas at Televisa Mexico, at the National Association of Actors, at the Teatro Coyoacán Enrique Lizalde and as an audiovisual producer at various companies such as Zara. He studied acting at Argos Casa Azul since August 2001, being part of the special group, and worked as an actor from 2001 to 2011. After making several short films, he ventured into the feature film genre with the film "Niños Asesinos". In 2020, "Niños Asesinos" became the second most viewed Mexican film on the YouTube video portal with information from the yearbook of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE) and in 2025 his films reached more than 40 million views on digital platforms. His work and beginnings in television range from the Hoy program on Televisa to Teletón; he produced capsules and content for the organization. In cinema, he has directed numerous short films, medium-length films and feature films, including: México Bravo, the latest work of actress María Luisa Alcalá; Escuela para enamorarse, Cascarita de plátano and short films for the "Basta No Violencia" campaign. In 2015, he signed a contract with the Mexican government to guide and direct the campaign and distribute films and short films in 14 countries. In 2015, and with the help of SEGOM Mexico, they released the film “Vidas Violentas” in collaboration with other great directors, such as Carlos Cuarón, Esclava de Amat Escalante, Michael Rowe and Mafer Suárez. The campaign is currently a standard-bearer in film education for schools and universities. The campaign has visited more than 2,000 public and private schools and has integrated educational film into the new generations. Tavera has created and directed series for Channel 34 of Televisión Mexiquense and Mexicanal, such as “Mocosos latosos” and “Guanabis”. Founder of the film production company, distributor, artist training center and media creator Glat Entertainment together with Armando Tavera, in 2011 he created the International Microcine Short Film Festival, which recognizes the best of international short and feature films. He is the twin brother of writer and producer Armando Tavera. In his career as a musician he is currently a producer and member of the Society of Authors and Composers of Mexico. Currently all of his film productions are on the largest and most important international film platforms such as PrimeVideo, VIX from Televisa Univisión, Tubi from Fox Corporation, Pluto TV, Apple TV, Retina Latina, Roku, NuestroCineMX, Canela Tv among other major brands. He is currently one of the most representative, recognized and award-winning film directors in Latin America.
